An Enhanced Hailsham Town Centre

Five Themes are Vistas and views, connectivity, civic spaces, green link and neighbourliness

Redeveloping the town centre provides an exciting opportunity to future proof Hailsham as a destination, whilst also creating a number of benefits for local people including new leisure facilities, increased healthcare access, enhanced links with the surrounding countryside and more public and green spaces.

The masterplan being considered, following two periods of public consultation and stakeholder engagement, will include the following:

The project will modernise and expand the town centre’s exercise and leisure facilities whilst also improving upon the civic and community spaces used by local groups.

The masterplan options all feature new connections and crossings to create better links to, from and within the town centre. This includes wider pedestrian walkways with a more open feel, making it easier to access and utilise the town centre using various transport options.

Redevelopment of the town centre will seek to create and enhance existing public spaces within the town centre. To provide places to sit, play and socialise, plus green spaces with tree planting and landscaping, as well as improved connectivity and accessibility for all and links to the surrounding countryside.

A mixture of much needed and environmentally friendly homes will be created of varying sizes to provide options for all, from first time buyers to family homes, and those looking to downsize. Bringing more homes into the town centre will also enable people to access services, retail, employment and leisure activities on their doorstep.

This will be more convenient, more sustainable and help create a vibrancy to the town that will attract more people and businesses to Hailsham.
